Killarney

The town of Killarney tends to be the focal point of golfers when they travel to the South-West, with good reason. The town has positioned itself as a tourist centre and golf plays an important role in the region. Outside of the great golf courses the town has a excellent night-life and plenty to do and see off the course. Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry are perhaps the two best known attractions but there is an abundance of activities to keep the visitor entertained.

Killarney also has a wonderful golf resort – Killarney Golf and Fishing Club. Located within the town it offers three excellent courses; Mahony’s Point, Lackabane and Killeen.

Killeen is the main course in the complex and was re-opened in 2006. It is certainly the most challenging with tight tree-lined fairways and water features adorning every hole. It has hosted the Irish Open in the past and prides itself on the quality of the greens.

Lackabane is a parkland course with many water features in play. It certainly favours the longer hitters and was opened in 1999.

Mahony’s Point is the shortest of the three courses, standing at just 6,800 yards. It is perhaps the course that is suitable for all golf levels but there are enough tricky shots to be played to certainly test the strong golfer.
