The K-Club

The K-Club is perhaps Ireland’s most exclusive golf resort. Located in County Kildare (hence the name K-Club) it hosts a 5 star hotel and two championship standard courses – the Palmer and Smurfit course. Both courses have hosted the European Open but the highlight of the resort’s achievements was to host the 2006 Ryder Cup on the Palmer course.

The Palmer course is the older of the two and is perhaps the best maintained parkland course in Ireland. From all accounts golfer’s tell us that it’s the design of the course that makes it so special – it’s layout tells a story as you progress and when you step off the 18th you know you have played a great course.

The Smurfit course has been described as an inland links course. Many of the fairways and greens are mounded and water comes into play quite a lot, especially on the last 6 holes. This is a great course and the scale of the development is worth a mention. In fact on the7th hole (Par 5 – 6060 yards) they engineered a man-made quarry the lenght of the hole. Our favourite is the 18th – a Par 5 that tempts you with taking on an island green to finish in a flourish – in general it ends in disaster!

The k-Club is just located outside of Dublin and is perfect if you are planning to stay in and around the capital city. As you would imagine the green-fees are on the high side (reflecting its Ryder Cup status and European Open venue) but if you are thinking about adding the K-Club to your vacation then contact us today.
