Baltray (Co. Louth)
Baltray or also known as Co. Louth Golf Club will this year play host to the 2009 Irish Open from May 14-17. It already hosted this prestigious tournament in 2004.
Baltray is located just outside of Drogheda and runs alongside the Irish Sea and is located at the mouth of the famous Boyne River. It is a course that doesn’t really get the attention it deserves from foreign golfers but it is well known to the Irish – with it being regarded by some as the best links course on the Eastern seaboard.
The course itself is on a complex of 190 acres and is set out in a tradtional loop. There has been recent modifications to bring the length over 7,000 yards but the basic layout from its first development remains the same.
