Carton Montgomerie
Type: Inland Links
Par: 72
Location: Kildare
Opened in June 2003, The Montgomery was the second course to open on the magnificent 1,100 acre Carton Estate, located just 14 miles west of Dublin. Designed by seven times European number 1, Colin Montgomerie, the course offers a very different challenge to that of it's neighbour, the O Meara Course. Although bordered by a variety of beautiful mature trees on the estate, the course is quite barren looking, with shimmering fescue grasses separating fast running fairways. There is a great mix of holes. Long par fours backed up with tricky short ones. Many bunkers being well over head high with dauntingly steep faces. This encourages strategic play that helps to make golf so fascinating. At full stretch, 7,300 yards, this links style creation is championship stuff. Host venues to the Nissan Irish open 2005 and again in 2006, Carton House was awarded ‘ Best New Golf Course Design 2004 ’ by Golf World magazine.
The "Monty" will have you thinking about your every move as you plot your way around the course but after all isn't this what links style golf is all about!
